The National Curriculum for Physical Education aims to ensure that all pupils:
Linked to our vision to Nurture, Learn, Achieve, our aims for Physical Education are:
Nurture – We regularly encourage children to be healthy and active. This helps all children practise teamwork in school which they can then use in the communities they are part of.
Learn – We broaden our children’s experiences of physical activity with a broad and varied PE curriculum. This enjoyment of PE promotes a lifelong love of physical activity in children and staff. We offer staff Continuous Professional Development training in PE to ensure high quality provision.
Achieve – We provide intra-school and inter-school competition through our School Sports Partnership. We encourage children to record their personal bests and attempt challenges. This helps us achieve improved attitudes to health and regular purposeful activity. We first focus on skill development in each sport and then allow children to hone those skills by competing in competitive matches.
The Government provides annual 'PE and Sports Premium' funding for all schools. We must spend the funding to encourage, develop and improve healthy, active lifestyles and sporting activities offered to all of our children at Hingham Primary School. The funding must be used to pay for additional, purposeful and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport.
We are constantly challenging ourselves to improve our provision, develop engagement and provide an increasing variety of sporting events. There is a strong PE culture across the whole school, amongst staff, children and parents alike. In the future, we want to maintain and expand this positive culture.
We have offered many different sporting experiences:
We are planning to expand our inter school competitions through the year.
In the Autumn term, more than 20 children took part in an inter-school Cross Country competition. More than half of Hingham's runners qualified for the quarter finals.
We compete within the school and help children Learn to work together. We believe that healthy competition is such a positive part of growing up. We Nurture our children to manage competition and Achieve.
We celebrate sporting achievements each Friday in our assembly.
The aim of the 'Boogie Bounce Schools' lessons to empower children with love and passion for physical activity which will allow them to take responsibility for their health and fitness from childhood into adulthood. The sessions provide a fun, exciting form of exercise which fosters a non-competitive, supportive and inclusive environment which is designed to motivate and encourage all students to participate – especially those who usually dislike classic P.E activities.
Children from Year 1 to Year learned the fundamentals of skateboarding. All of the classes thoroughly enjoyed themselves during the sessions.
